Independent Nashville based label, Silverado Records showcase their ever-growing, and incredibly exciting roster, on this joyous Christmas release.
There's been quite a few Christmas albums put out this year by country artists and hearing the same songs being covered can get a bit tiresome. However, this Silverado release finds a good balance between new and old, with 3 original songs and 4 covers.
Up and comer Zack Dyer opens with an original, 'Snow Day', which is a cheerful track with reggae stylings.
Another new track comes from Gabe Burdulis. His song, 'I'm Looking For Christmas This Year', is my personal favorite on the album. A song about his memories of Christmas, it's a sweet song with a beautiful melody. Gabe has a wonderful voice too and is definitely an artist to keep an eye on.
The last original track is Crystal Yates' 'Christmas Time For Just Me and You'. This one is so classically Christmassy, with a wonderful piano accompaniment. Crystal has an incredibly soulful voice which shines throughout the song.
When it comes to covers, this release also does not disappoint. Whilst each cover are songs that have been covered countless times, each artist here puts their own spin on them and makes them sound their own.
Overall, this is a fantastic release and a very promising sign of things to come from Silverado Records.
Track Listing:
1. 'Snow Day' - Zack Dyer
2. 'I'll Be Home For Christmas' - Joe Diffie
3. 'Let It Snow' - Mandy McMillan
4. 'The Christmas Song' - Melissa Mickelson
5. 'I'm Looking For Christmas This Year' - Gabe Burdulis
6. 'Blue Christmas' - Tony Winkler
7. 'Christmas Time For Just Me and You' - Crystal Yates

US Country Sensation Brent Cobb Announces UK Debut 'Shine on Rainy Day'
Georgia native Brent Cobb has announced the release of his new single ‘Shine On Rainy Day’, which is taken from his debut album of the same name, to be released in the UK next year.
Having just been on tour with Anderson East and a recent support slot with Chris Stapleton, Brent will be bringing his soulful Southern charm to the UK for a number of dates in January..
The dates are as follows:
Thurs 26th: The Slaughtered Lamb, London
Fri 27th: Castle Hotel , Manchester
Sun 29th: O2 ABC, Glasgow
Released in the US earlier this year to widespread critical acclaim, Shine On Rainy Day is an album Brent’s been trying to make for a decade and saw him enlist the help of his cousin and fellow Georgian, Dave Cobb, the Grammy Award-winning producer (Chris Stapleton, Jamey Johnson, Sturgill Simpson and Jason Isbell).
Brent wanted to record an album that felt Southern, though not the kind of Southern you might expect. Neither Southern rock nor mainstream country, the sound sits somewhere on the wide bandwidth that exists between the two and sees Brent alternating between light and dark by channeling his influences of rural life.
Cousin Dave helped him find the right vibe, full of blue-eyed soul, country funk and the kind of swamp boogie sounds that predominated pop in the 1960s and early 1970s.
The album carries something of a Southern Gothic narrative, alternating between dark visions and self-deprecating scenes of black humour that bubble up in laugh-or-cry moments. He chose the album’s title after a friend heard ‘Shine On Rainy Day’ following a family tragedy and mentioned how powerful it was to him.
'When you have a bad storm that hits, the next day the trees are in full bloom and the grass is greener and lightning cleans the air up,' Brent said. 'My friend called me up out of the blue and said that song hit him so hard. It’s talking about a rainy day, they’re going through a real life rainy day.'
2017 is set to be a busy year for Brent. As well as his UK dates in January, ahead of his forthcoming album release, he’ll also be out on the road across the US supporting the likes of Chris Stapleton, The Cadillac Three, Little Big Town, Nikki Lane and playing California’s Stagecoach Festival and the Newport Folk Festival.

Single of the Week: '#Country' - Tucker
There's a lot about the country genre to love. The songs tell stories, the music is honest and every award show feels like one big family gathering. I'm proud to be associated with this genre and so are a lot of people, which is why there are so many songs about country pride. This sort of song risks being repetitive, and some are, but Tucker's '#Country' is a new take on this well-loved theme.
The title says it all, alluding to the new generation of music with the use of the hashtag. '#Country' is very much in the style of Aldean and Gilbert: country/rock and the desire to get a little crazy - yet this track isn't solely a party anthem. There's some depth to Tucker's voice, some definite soul and you're left in no doubt about how passionate he is about his genre - and you're also left wanting to hear more from this guy.
Listen to '#Country' below:
About Tucker
Fast-rising multi-instrumentalist and prolific songwriter Tucker has released #Country, his debut single. A sought after musician for some of Nashville’s leading stars, the talented singer-songwriter is ready to head out on his own with this new song and EP release.
Paying his dues and honing his craft in Music City over the last decade has meant that Jason Tucker has played and toured with a host of established country artists including Jason Aldean, Jimmy Wayne, James Otto and Eric Durrance. Although he’s been a highly prized musician for some of the busiest artists on the road, all of those artists would urge Tucker to record his own solo project. The thoughtful artist took his time to learn the business and to refine and develop his own songs. He cut demos, performed in and around Nashville, and continued to enhance the sound of other big names until the time was right. That time is now.
The new single celebrates everything he and his audience love about country, both as a musical experience and a lifestyle. As Tucker himself explains: '#Country is more about a state-of-mind and a down-home culture than a region. I’m from North Carolina, my wife is from Detroit. You could be from the South Bronx or Stockholm and understand what it means when we say ‘proud to be from the south’.'
With the release of #Country, Tucker steps out from the shadows into where he belongs - centre stage, with his songs making connections with audiences around the world.

REVIEW: 'Orphan Offering' - Yola Carter
I'll cut straight to it - Yola Carter has one of the strongest voices that I have ever heard.
Her voice packs so much emotion, power and soul, it is absolutely crazy to think that this lady is an independent artist. This is an artist who is up there with the quintessential powerhouses of music - the Adeles, the Mariahs and the Arethas.
On paper, that seems like a lot of pressure to put on an artist who has still yet to release a full length album but these are comparisons that I could not help but make. Yola's six track EP, Orphan Offering, is one of the most compelling pieces of music that I have listened to in quite some time. The EP combines a whole host of genres such as country, soul, gospel and jazz and, because it's not pigeonholed into one genre, it has tremendous mainstream appeal.
In short, Yola Carter should be on all the big radio stations here, there and everywhere.
Lyrically, Orphan Offering is also strong and addresses tough but important issues. Carter had a hard upbringing, coming from a broken home and a community in which racism was not uncommon. This allows for the EP to become part-autobiographical and part-social/political commentary. One such track, 'Dead and Gone' tackles head on, the obstacles that black women face in the music industry today.
Track 'Orphan Country' is equally as haunting. Carter's vocals are vulnerable; every line she sounds close to tears as she sings about the problems that she faced to be heard, making a comparison to a horse who should be allowed to run free. Having read the press release prior to listening and learning about how she was 'banned' from making any music by a parent suffering from mental illness, this track was incredibly striking.
'Fly Away' features a(nother) vocal masterclass alongside a fiddle which makes the track one of the more 'country' sounding ones on the EP but it's arguably just as bluesy and there's also a gospel element to it, very much so in the latter half of the song as Yola and her backing singers demonstrate the wonderful dynamic between them.
The EP opener, 'Home' is definitely the right song to start the collection off on. Delicate guitars and vocals open the track before growing in ferocity and passion - the latter of the two is found in every song that follows.
Orphan Offering is evocative and Yola Carter's voice is simply stunning. I truly don't think she'll remain an independent artist for much longer...

Aaron Watson Confirms Highly Anticipated New Album, 'Vaquero'!
Groundbreaking independent country artist Aaron Watson continues to chart his own course with the February 24th 2017 release of his new album ‘Vaquero’ (BIG Label Records/Thirty Tigers).
Watson made history in 2015 when his 10th studio album, The Underdog debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart marking the first time an independent, male country artist had ever debuted at the coveted top spot. Watson’s unprecedented accomplishment turned heads and opened many eyes to what he had been building independently for years. With Vaquero, Watson continues to challenge current trends and stay true to his muse. The 16-song collection finds the Texas native following the trail back to his roots, keying in on his influences and tipping his hat to the fans and family who helped set the foundation for his success.
Tirelessly defying the odds of the conventional country album cycle over the last 17 years, Watson built a career one fan at a time, night after night, and album-by-album. It’s only recently that others have caught up to the now nationally recognised artist who, now more than ever, is a force to contend with. Watson has been selling out shows across Texas and beyond, with audiences ranging from 2,000-5,000 nightly for years, while also selling out in major markets including Boston and Denver. Expanding his reach even further, Watson performs headlining shows to capacity crowds internationally in the UK, Italy, France, Norway and more. For Watson, it has been a slow and steady climb, but one thing is clear, the integrity and principles that lie beneath all the hard work and perseverance have remain unchanged.
Vaquero - which means the ‘original cowboy’ - is an intensely reflective and personal set of songs filled with compelling narratives. Throughout, he depicts stories of a rugged people, humble but hardworking, like himself. He puts a playful spin on an insider’s view on the Texan way of life with ‘Amen Amigo’ and delivers life lessons courtesy of an old vaquero with the title track. On the poignant ‘Diamonds & Daughters’, he opens up his heart for his little girl. ‘Mariano’s Dream’ is a companion piece to ‘Clear Isabel’ and on ‘They Don’t Make Em Like They Used To’ he sings of the longing for the nostalgia of an earlier time. Listeners have come to know Watson’s pragmatic style and authenticity as an artist over the years. With Vaquero, he keeps his Texas flare and honest songwriting at the forefront.
Watson co-produced Vaquero with award-winning producer Marshall Altman (Eric Paslay, Frankie Ballard). All sixteen songs for the Amarillo, TX native bear his name, with half penned solely by Watson and the others co-written with acclaimed collaborators including Mac McAnally, Leslie Satcher, Kendell Marvel and more.
A pre-order of the album is available now and includes lead single ‘Outta Style’ and ‘Big Love In A Small Town’.

To date, Whiskey Myers – Cody Cannon, Vocals & Guitar / Cody Tate, Guitar & Vocals | John Jeffers, Guitar & Vocals | Gary Brown, Bass | Jeff Hogg, Drums / Tony Kent, Percussion – have focused mainly on the UK, appearing at festivals(including Download & Ramblin’ Man), guesting with good friends The Cadillac Three, then packing out halls on their debut headline run, but now they’re ready to set sights on mainland Europe, too…
Says Cody Cannon: 'Travelling overseas has opened a whole new chapter in the story of the band. The audiences are really knowledgeable, they know all of the lyrics and they love to get involved, which suits us just fine. We’ve been playing for over two hours every night, and we’ve had a helluva time. And remember, this is just the tip!'
The dates are as follows:
17 May – UK – Newcastle O2 Academy 2
18 May – UK – Glasgow O2 ABC
20 May – UK – Manchester O2 Ritz
21 May – UK – Birmingham O2 Institute
22 May – UK – Nottingham Rescue Rooms
23 May – UK – Norwich Waterfront
24 May – UK – Cardiff Tramshed
25 May – UK – London Electric Ballroom
27 May – DE – Hamburg Prinzenbar
28 May – DE – Berlin Privatclub
30 May – NL – Amsterdam Paradiso (Upstairs)
31 May – FR – Paris Les Etoiles
The follow-up to Early Morning Shakes (2014), the band’s latest studio album Mud – available now via Spinefarm Records – spotlights 10 new tracks, including ‘Hank’ (which references the Hank Williams Jnr. album ‘The Pressure Is On’), ‘Frogman’ (co-penned with Rich Robinson of Black Crowes repute and inspired by friends in the US military) and ‘Good Ol’ Days’ (featuring Georgia-born singer / song-writer Brent Cobb, cousin of Dave).
Produced by Grammy winner Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Rival Sons), Mud sees the East Texans taking their emotive style and sound to fresh levels, straddling a number of different genres (soul, country, classic rock, blues, etc.) in the process, with the title track standing as one of WM’s weightiest recordings, both in terms of the sonics and the sentiment.

Interview: Canaan Smith Talks About His UK Experience and More!
Currently supporting The Shires on their huge My Universe tour across the country, Canaan Smith has been thrilling old fans and winning over new ones.
Canaan, who last year released his debut album Bronco, has set social media buzzing with his opening set and if you were to take a peek at my Twitter and Facebook feeds right now, you may think that he's on his own headlining tour - people are loving him and the feeling is mutual.
Canaan, who last year released his debut album Bronco, has set social media buzzing with his opening set and if you were to take a peek at my Twitter and Facebook feeds right now, you may think that he's on his own headlining tour - people are loving him and the feeling is mutual.
Canaan managed to find a few minutes in his busy schedule to answer a few questions about his tour so far, his album and his future plans.
SC: You’re a week into touring with The Shires...how have you found the UK so far?
CS: Incredible! The crowds have been super generous and warm....it’s going to be hard to leave.
SC: Have you had much time to explore the country whilst you’ve been over here so far?
CS: Here and there. The parts we've seen have been beautiful! From Windsor Castle to Stonehenge to the beaches of Brighton, this scenic country has made quite an impact on me.
SC: Bronco is your debut album and it is an absolutely stellar album...how would you describe the album/your sound to those not yet familiar with your music?
CS: Thank you! I'm not sure how to sum it up, but lyrics are a top priority for me. Musically I've been inspired by everything from George Strait to Goo Goo Dolls and elements of each appear on Bronco. At the core of these songs, I'm just trying to make honest music.
SC: ‘Love You Like That’ was a #1 single for you in the states. Just what goes through your mind when you find out your song is #1?
CS: I could feel it in my whole body. I wanted to run around screaming! We worked long and hard for that # 1 and it was incredibly rewarding the day it happened.
SC: Who are some of your biggest influences?
CS: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Third Eye Blind, George Strait, Jeff Buckley, The Beatles
SC: What artists are you listening to right now?
CS: The new Sting album, Desi Valentine and Dirty Heads.
SC: And finally...what are your plans for 2017? Another trip to the UK, perhaps?
CS: A tour back home and playing the Country 2 Country festival in March!
SC: Thanks for your time & enjoy the rest of the tour!
CS: Thanks so much for the interview.

Written by Culley, Rucker, Meghan Linsey and Tyler Cain, the music video and trailer for the film can be viewed now on iTunes and YouTube. Starring John Travolta, Kate Bosworth and Sharon Stone, Life on the Line opens in limited release this Friday, November 18th in the following major markets; Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia and Tampa. ALBUM REVIEW: 'Tough Ones to Love' - Amanda Richards
Last week we featured a single called 'Fresh Kill', a single that I enjoyed immensely.
Even though I am someone who considers themselves a fan of most, if not all, of the sub-genres of the broad country genre, I must admit that I do favor the rootsy side over the super-polished and overly produced side. Therefore, Amanda Richards' 'Fresh Kill' was exactly the sort of track that holds a special place in my heart, so I had a good feeling heading into my first listen of her new album.
And man...Tough Ones To Love did not disappoint.
The album is a lovely throwback to traditional country, with songs telling real, interesting and diverse stories. And this is great and, with this album, it is just perfect as Amanda is clearly a natural storyteller, as demonstrated from the get-go with 'Fresh Kill', a song that warns of the dangers of letting life pass you by.
'Last Train' has a wonderful wild west vibe to it as Richards sings about rejecting the advances of a charming yellow-eyed devil. I mentioned in my single review last week about how rich 'Fresh Kill' was in imagery, and in language, and this recurs throughout the entire album, and 'Last Train' is another fine example, as is 'Another Temptation'.
Like her storytelling, Amanda's smoky vocals also shine - particularly on 'Close To Me', a track that shows a more vulnerable side to the singer, increasingly so towards the end of the song where her voice grows and shakes with emotion.
'Lame Tattoos' reminds us that looks can and will fade, whilst 'Cinderella Waltz' is a heartbreaking tale of waiting for a prince that never shows.
This is a diverse album with ten original tracks and three covers, all telling different tales but, ultimately, they're all connected together with an authenticity that makes this album really great. I don't know all too much about Amanda Richards personally but I can tell that this is an album that stays very much true to who she is and I can sense that she's proud of this collection of songs...and she has every right to be.
This is a fantastic album and might just be a sneaky late addition to our top albums of the year list.
Tough Ones To Love is available now.

Folk-Americana Trio Underhill Rose Announce UK November Tour
Harmonies. Soul-touching lyrics. Underhill Rose has become synonymous with beautiful Americana music.
With Eleanor Underhill, playing her distinctive claw-hammer style on a Deering banjo along with harmonica, Molly Rose on guitar, and Salley Williamson plucking the upright bass, the trio has carved out a place in the Americana scene with songs that run the gamut from heart wrenching to sassy and playful to thought-provoking. Eleanor’s salty blues-inspired voice and Molly’s soaring range lead the group in tandem with Salley’s country twang to create three-part harmony music that is real and inspired, rooted in everything life has thrown at Asheville, North Carolina’s pre-eminent female trinity.
Molly Rose and Eleanor Underhill’s musical partnership is the result of a chance meeting at a makeshift performance of ‘Angel from Montgomery’ between classes at Warren Wilson College. Molly Rose’s beautiful voice resonated with Eleanor, and the two eventually started performing live together. Their affinity for the music they make has kept them together for more than 12 years. Underhill Rose formed in 2009, and the addition of Salley Williamson two years later created the foundation for an internationally-recognized female trio known for blending aspects of Americana, rhythm and blues, country and bluegrass into an authentic sound that is all their own – ‘Heartfelt Country Soul.’
2016 has already become a high-spirited year for the boot-wearing trio, with performances at Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour and Folk Alliance International, the band's first-ever international tour to the UK and Ireland, and sold-out shows at clubs and performance centres along the way. On the heels of outstanding UK reviews for their latest album The Great Tomorrow, released to coincide with their first visit earlier this year, Underhill Rose return for a second UK tour in November.
‘After our first trip to the UK, I couldn’t be more excited to return,’ says Eleanor. ‘We met the most incredible people, saw beautiful places, and played on stages we can’t wait to return to play.’
The trio will play the following dates:
Nov 10th: The Hut, Corby
Nov 11th: The Square Tower, Old Portsmouth
Nov 12th: Green Note, London
Nov 13th: Santini's, Kenley
Nov 14th: The Castle Hotel, Manchester
Nov 18th: Woodend Gallery, Scarborough
Nov 19th: The Studio in Live Theatre, Newcastle upon Tyne

Yola Carter Debuts On NPR Ahead Of 'Orphan Offering' EP Release Next Month
Noted as a “breakthrough performance” artist by The Guardian at AmericanaFest 2016, Yola Carter has debuted a new song ‘Fly Away’ as an exclusive stream, alongside an interview feature on NPR this week.
With a soulful, country-gospel style voice that lives between the purity of Gene Clark and the grit of Mavis Staples in her prime, the response to this singer/songwriter among fans, critics and industry has already been overwhelming. Her debut acoustic EP Orphan Offering - out 1st November 2016 worldwide - is an introduction to Yola Carter’s vision, a revival of classic Americana.
Check our the feature here via NPR.
You can catch Yola on the following dates this December:
5th - The Wardrobe Theatre, Bristol
15th - The Con Club, Lewes
16th - The Square Tower, Old Portsmouth
19th - The Borderline, London
22nd - The Sage, Gateshead
About Yola Carter
Yola Carter is a country-soul singer/songwriter from Bristol, UK, whose recent successes include a much-hyped performance at Americana Fest in Nashville, having been selected by AMA UK as a showcase artist and noted as ‘one to watch’ by publications including The Guardian, NPR, Pitchfork and Wall Street Journal. Heavily influenced from an early age by Sixties country, Stax-era soul and gospel ranging from The Staple Singers to Otis Redding, Yola was raised in a small seaside town in the South West of the England and “always wanted to be a country music artist”.
Unafraid to address difficult issues in her lyrics, Yola’s real-life story - both heartbreaking and inspirational - naturally finds its way into her songs. Coming from a poor, broken home and a parent suffering from mental illness who ‘banned’ her from making any music, Yola’s experience of growing up was one of truly living below the breadline. In a working class community in denial of its status where discrimination and even violence fuelled by racism were not unusual, writing music quickly became an outlet and a means of expression, and touring a means of escape.
From her late teens, Yola Carter (born Yolanda Quartey) worked hard to earn credibility and respect throughout the industry as one of the UK's top singers and a uniquely gifted songwriter. Realising that her soul voice was soon getting attention, Yola graduated to touring internationally straight out of school with critically acclaimed acts such as Bugz in the Attic on their world tour, and later Massive Attack, most notably headlining Glastonbury Festival's Other Stage to 60,000 people and broadcasting live on the BBC.
She began her journey into Americana music performing with her band Phantom Limb, based in her hometown of Bristol. The band self-released the eponymous debut album and the later more country-leaning effort of ‘The Pines’ produced by Marc Ford of The Black Crowes, taking to the road with acts such as Dr John, Solomon Burke and Candi Staton. Despite this success, Phantom Limb eventually disbanded, leaving Yola to focus on her own projects.
Yola Carter has since combined her two skillsets of singer-writer and writer/producer to write, record and produce her debut solo EP Orphan Offering out November 1st 2016. A set of songs that manage to be autobiographical and intensely personal while speaking to wider socio-political issues, the EP is a living example of an artist building something from nothing: In ‘Dead and Gone’ Carter sings 'there was a time when my people were product to you; if we can’t supersede that now, where on Earth am I heading to?' - an explicit reference to assumptions about the role of black female singers in the modern music industry.
Throughout the summer, Yola has been on the road, including appearances at various festivals including Canary Wharf’s ‘Nashville Meets London’, and support slots for St Paul and The Broken Bones, Sam Outlaw and Imelda Mae, along with an increasing focus on her much anticipated debut release.

'Working with an iconic artist like Joe starts to put into perspective the mission we have here at Silverado Records to build a label that’s steeped in equal parts traditional country music, and also country music that leans new or different,' said Thomas.
Aaron Chesling, A&R Director at Silverado said: 'I am so excited for the chance to work with an artist like Joe along with the Silverado team. I am truly humbled to be a part in developing his next record.'

'I’m looking forward to sharing them with my fans real soon.' The pair previously teamed up for Diffie’s most recent single 'Girl Ridin’ Shotgun' the video for which has amassed nearly 10 million YouTube views, and features cameo appearances from superstars like Shelton, Brad Paisley, Toby Keith, Lee Brice, McGraw and Keith Urban.

Single of the Week: 'Fresh Kill' - Amanda Richards
Country music has never been short of great female artists although in recent years, it's fair to say that the genre has not been too kind to its ladies. I mean it's 2016 (!) and just last year there was that absurd 'tomato-gate' incident.
But you can't keep a good woman down as proven by the recent successes of Maren Morris, Margo Price and Aubrie Sellers, who have all been carving out quite the name for themselves this past year. Instead of adhering to country radio's apparent current formula of songs about drinking and trucks, they've done their own thing and produced some of this year's best music...and if you like those ladies, then I think you're gonna love Amanda Richards.
With her 2011 LP, Play Dead, being a zombie apocalypse-concept-performance album from the perspective of a feminist country singer who is soon to be the last person on earth, it is fair to say that Richards is the exact opposite of what's on country radio at present. I don't know Richards but I'm certain that doesn't bother her and instead she loves the freedom of being able to write and perform whatever she wants.
There may be a lack of zombies in 'Fresh Kill' but it's still just as gritty with a great message at the heart of it. The imagery is vivid in this song but it is the line 'the vultures start to circle when you're standing still' that screams the loudest. Nothing good will happen if you don't keep moving on with your life is the moral of this song and I think it's a very beautiful, and true, sentiment expressed through some haunting imagery.
Richards' new album, Tough Ones to Love, comes out November 4th. Check back soon for our review.

ALBUM REVIEW: Little Seeds - Shovels & Rope
I've had Shovels & Rope's new release Little Seeds in my possession for a while but have lacked the time to be able to properly articulate my thoughts on it until now.
For those unfamiliar, the duo are comprised of husband and wife, Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst from Charleston, South Carolina. They already have a few albums to their name, both as a duo and as artists in their own right, but this is the first LP I've listened of them in full. It wouldn't be the last.
Little Seeds is an album rich with lyrical quality and emotional depth. Powerful is perhaps the best way to describe this collection of tracks as it kicks off with the thumping, grungy 'I Know' and 'Botched Execution' - the latter of the two has such incredible imagery that I couldn't help but immediately replay it a few times to fully soak it all in.
Yet, it also packs a heavy emotional punch. This album is easy to listen to, yes, but at the same time is hard to listen to. At times, you'll be brought crashing back to reality. 'Invisible Man' is about the heartbreaking effects of Alzheimer’s from the point of view of a sufferer who, as a result of the horrific disease, is lost in themselves. Another haunting track is 'BWYR', a minimalist in style, cry to stop the many number of hate fueled killings that keep happening - it's a stunning number with a message that really needs to be heard, perhaps more now than ever before.
'BWYR', a track about how precious life is, leads nicely into the beautiful 'Eric's Birthday', a song that celebrates the birth of a child before concluding with 'This Ride' which reflects on the other end of the spectrum - death. This album is a wonderful tapestry of emotion, so well crafted and so well put together.
I went into this album as a casual listener of the duo and left as a fan. Little Seeds is, quite simply, a masterclass in storytelling.
Little Seeds is out now. For more information on the band, including information on their upcoming UK dates, visit shovelsandrope.com.

Silverado Records Adds Ali Morgan to Roster
Silverado Records has signed Ali Morgan to its growing label.
The young singer-songwriter, from Chicago, joins Melissa Mickelson, Hish and Zack Dyer.
Morgan couldn't be happier to join the label, saying, 'Becoming part of the Silverado Records family is a dream come true! I haven't stopped smiling, and I can't wait to get started. They are building quite a team, and I'm so thankful they've given me a chance to be a part of it.'
As well as performing locally, Ali's first few shows in Nashville have included one-off performances at the Bluebird Cafe and a Silverado songwriter's round at the Belcourt Taps. Aaron Chesling, Silverado's head of A&R said: 'The Silverado Records team is honored and excited beyond belief to be working with this extraordinary young lady. We’re eager to begin her story, and work with her over the next few years to develop and grow her fan base.'
Signed to a multi-project, long-term deal with the label, Morgan is working on new material, and will record her debut single soon.
'There are some artists, when you meet them you know right away that they're someone you want to work with,' said Silverado Founder/CEO Scott Thomas. 'She's a special girl, she's extremely talented, and we're over the moon about working with her to build her career and share her talent with the world!'

Single of the Week: 'Anywhere With You' - Fiona Culley
Being called the 'Adele of country' is a big statement on its own. Being called the 'Adele of country' by Paul Worley? That is quite some praise and a heck of a lot of hype to live up to for a relative newcomer to Nashville.
Yet, Fiona Culley doesn't seem to crack under this sort of pressure.
'Anywhere With You' may not be a big booming Adele-esque ballad but it is a fun, catchy number reminiscent of Kelsea Ballerini and early Taylor Swift. On paper, the chorus looks incredibly repetitive consisting of just two lines - Baby, there's anywhere with you/And then there's everywhere else - repeated over and over again but it works, the repetitive nature driving the song into your head where it will linger for ages, rather than driving you into turning it off. Lyrically, it's simple and the same could be said production wise with minimum production allowing Culley's vocals to shine throughout.
Listening to this single is a nice way to spend three minutes of your day and serves as the perfect appetizer for Culley's upcoming EP. If you have more than three minutes, make sure to check out her YouTube where there's also some fantastic covers to listen to!
About Fiona Culley
Discovering her love for Country from a young age, Fiona has been penning her own songs since early 2008.
Finding inspiration from her countryside home in Staffordshire and the wandering landscapes of England, Fiona’s move to Nashville have shaped her music for good. Blending a collection of old and new influences, from the likes of Johnny Cash to Carrie Underwood, She is bringing her fresh sound to the genre.
Fiona has just completed her EP with a hit team of musicians and the legendary producer Paul Worley at the helm. Expect to go through a sea of emotions from songs such as 'What Whiskey Does' written by Brandy Clark & Bob Dipiero that is guaranteed to not only make you chuckle with its lyrical content but also make you want to bob your head to 'Better Alone' written by Fiona that cuts straight to the heart. Her powerful vocals shine throughout. Paul Worley calls her 'the 'Adele of Country.'

Sean McConnell Confirms Album Launch in December
Following the announcement of The Texas Music Takeover; a seven-date UK showcase of Texas music artists throughout November and December, country/Americana singer-songwriter Sean McConnell has confirmed his album launch show.
McConnell will showcase his new album at The Garage (upstairs) in London on 2nd December 2016. Tickets will be released at 9am Friday 14th October via www.gigsandtours.com.
The songwriter, known for his work with artists including Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Brothers Osborne and David Nail, will showcase his catalogue of new solo material. The self-titled album, his debut for Rounder Records, marks a personal and professional breakthrough - a career-defining record, with McConnell ready for prime time, yet still blessed with all the soulfulness and reflective storytelling for which he is already respected and admired. The album was released on 30th September and demonstrates exactly why this singer-songwriter has already won such a devoted audience. The single 'Holy Days' and accompanying video are now streaming online and the album is available on CD and download.
About Sean McConnell
"From a very young age, I just knew that I was gonna spend my life making music," Sean McConnell states. "I never really questioned it, so I just forged ahead and didn't let anything stop me." Although his self-titled new Rounder album will serve as his introduction to many listeners, the personable young artist is actually a seasoned, distinctive songwriter and an experienced performer with a quartet of D.I.Y. indie releases to his credit. Having built a substantial grass-roots fan base through tireless touring and old-fashioned hard work, McConnell is primed for a mainstream breakthrough.
McConnell, a Massachusetts native, comes by music naturally; his musician parents were part of Boston’s vibrant folk music community. He began writing songs at age 12, after his family relocated to Georgia, and he never looked back. In addition to accolades for his songwriting, he has earned a well-deserved reputation as a dynamic live performer, whose shows offer his fans everything from intimate acoustic ballads to foot-stomping rock and roll.
Having spent much of his life honing his craft and paying his dues, Sean McConnell is eager to launch the next chapter of his career: "I kind of feel like I've been in a really long boot camp," he concludes. "I'm really grateful for that, because I feel like I've gained enough experience to know the deal and be prepared for anything. I'm excited to see where the next part of the journey takes me."

The Cadillac Three Reveal 'Drunk Like You' Live Video + Make National TV Debut
Nashville trio The Cadillac Three have revealed a live video of them performing their latest single ‘Drunk Like You’, which appears on the critically acclaimed new album Bury Me In My Boots, out now.
The session sees the band playing a stripped back version of the country rock anthem as well as featuring album tracks ‘Runnin’ Red Lights’ and ‘Ship Faced’. The beautiful acoustic performances showcase their musical and songwriting talents in these raw and unplugged performances with ‘Graffiti’ being released on October 21st and ‘White Lightning’ on November 4th.
The videos follow their highly praised US National Television debut where The Cadillac Three performed fan-favourite ‘The South’ live on NBC’s Late Night With Seth Meyers last month.
The Grammy-nominated, chart-topping frontman Jaren Johnston and his musical comrades, Neil Mason (percussion) and Kelby Ray (lap steel), have seen a wave of worldwide support since releasing Bury Me In My Boots on Big Machine Records last month. The album debuted at no.8 in the Official Album Charts on the first day of sales and dominated the Country Charts on both iTunes and Amazon.
The Cadillac Three were named ‘Best New Band’ in the 2014 UK Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards and became the most played new band on Planet Rock in 2015. The band recently brought their Southern swagger to the London’s legendary Abbey Road studios were they filmed a number of exclusive live versions of their songs.
Having established a loyal following in the UK with multiple sold-out headline dates and their recent electrifying performance at Ramblin’ Man Fair, The Cadillac Three will be returning to the UK for their Don’t Forget The Whiskey headline tour next month.

ALBUM REVIEW: 'Sean McConnell' - Sean McConnell
You might not yet know his name but there's a very good chance that you've heard some of Sean McConnell's work already.
Tim McGraw...Brad Paisley...Martina McBride...the list of names that have cut Sean's songs is as endless as it is illustrious. Now, with his self-titled album, Sean surely looks set to become a household name in his own right.
From start to finish, this album oozes class and fine lyrics. The stories he tells are vivid and his voice is soulful. For forty or so minutes, you'll be taken on the sort of journey that is rarely found in music these days.
'Holy Days' opens the album, a track that reminisces about time spent with a loved one. From the get go, Sean sets himself an alarmingly high precedent to live up to, yet manages to live up to this standard with ease and, at times, even surpasses it.
'Beautiful Rose' is the standout track from this offering of fine songs. It's a peaceful, simple song of reflection that is absolutely captivating. One of the best songs that I have heard in a while.
There's a strong personal feeling that runs throughout this release but none feel as autobiographical as 'Queen of Saint Mary's Choir'. With his father a guitar player and his mother a singer, this kicking track is the story of Sean's life and serves as a perfect introduction for those who know little about the man who proves, track after track, to be one of Nashville's finest songwriters and one of Music City's hottest talents.
When I was sent this release, I will admit that I had not heard of Sean but if I hadn't been sent this release, I am sure that I would have heard about him soon enough. A fantastic album by one of the most exciting artists that Nashville has to offer. One to watch.
This album is definitely worth a purchase and, if you can, go see him when he plays a few dates in London later this year.
The album is available now. For further information about Sean, including his London dates, visit seanmcconnell.com.

ALBUM REVIEW: 'My Universe' - The Shires
The first time I saw The Shires was on their Homegrown Tour with Ward Thomas. In the two years that would follow, these two duos would go on to make history. The Shires started first, becoming the first UK country act to enter the top ten with their debut album, Brave. Ward Thomas then did one better at the start of this month, hitting the top spot with their album Cartwheels.
Now, set to release their second album, My Universe, one can't help but wonder what record Ben and Crissie will break with this release.
A word that keeps coming to mind when thinking about this album is growth. Eighteen months separate Brave and My Universe but in those eighteen months the duo have grown a lot both as songwriters and people.
Opening the album is the powerful title track, the duo's current single. Not only is this track part of the #ItCanWait safety campaign (an incredibly important campaign which highlights the danger of using your phone whilst driving) but it was also inspired by key moments in Ben and Crissie's lives - the birth of Ben's son and the anniversary of Crissie's father passing. It's a song about making every moment count and is the first of a number of personal songs on the record.
Tracks 'Beats To Your Rhythm', 'Not Even Drunk Right Now' and 'A Thousand Hallelujahs' look set to be real crowdpleasers on their upcoming tour which starts in November, with all three being big, energetic anthems.
Crissie takes the lead on 'Daddy's Little Girl' which is a beautiful tribute to her late father before it's Ben's turn on the equally powerful 'Everything You Never Gave', as he vows not to follow in his father's footsteps and to be there for his own child. Positioned back-to-back in the middle of the album, these songs offer an insight into the duo's lives that I feel Brave lacked and I appreciate Ben and Crissie feeling that they're able to share such personal stories with us.
More vulnerability is shared on 'Naked', 'Save Me' and 'Desperate' and you can feel the heart in each song. Never once do you feel as if it's forced emotion or like the track has just been thrown in there to make up numbers. Each and every song belongs on this release and I truthfully can't even pick out a weak song, nevermind a bad song.
As for my favorite track from My Universe, I am torn. 'Drive', a track that was written with Kip Moore is absolutely excellent. It leaves you with a sense of adventure and a kick and a chorus that is hard to get out of your head. And then there's 'Other People's Things', a song that I've heard on an earlier tour and I'm so glad that it made the album. It's a beautiful piano led track about how the little things, such as a pair of shoes or a photograph, can bring back a multitude of memories both good and bad. It's a finely written song that, for so many people, will be heartbreakingly relatable. It will leave a lasting impression on even the most resistant heart.
Brave will always hold a special place in my heart as it was an album that I watched grow from a handful of songs performed in small venues to a full album performed in front of ever-growing crowds but, in terms of quality, My Universe surpasses it. The songwriting is better, Ben and Crissie have never sounded better and the connection with us has never felt stronger. I simply can't wait to hear this album being played out on their upcoming tour!
My Universe is out on Friday. For further information and a full list of tour dates, visit theshiresmusic.com.

Single of the Week: 'Rockabilly Saturday Night' - Josh Christina
You can't pigeonhole this week's Single of the Week. With 'Rockabilly Saturday Night', up and comer Josh Christina presents us with a wonderfully fun concoction of blues, jazz and rock n'roll with a little bit of Americana thrown in for good measure.
I was sent this release a little while ago and was so intrigued by Josh's unique sound that I did a little digging. Visiting his YouTube channel unearthed a treasure trove of covers, including covers of recent pop hits from Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor. This guy is immensely talented and, at the age of just 21, surely has a long and bright future ahead of him in the music industry.
'Rockabilly Saturday Night' is further proof of this. The piano led track is feel good and catchy with strong, confident vocals. You can definitely tell that Josh loves making and playing music and the joy is contagious. I'd recommend listening to this song at any time but if you're ever in need of a little pick me up, I'd especially recommend listening to this song.

ALBUM REVIEW: 'AKA Nobody' - Mac McAnally
His peers have voted him 'Musician of the Year' for eight consecutive years at the CMA Awards - ten times in total. He's a member of the Nashville Songwriters' Hall of Fame and he's worked with names such as Reba, George Strait and Dolly...it's easier to name who he hasn't worked with. Mac McAnally has achieved a lot in his career and he's showing no signs of stopping any time soon.
AKA Nobody is McAnally's 13th studio album and, admittedly, the first that I have listened to...and it won't be the last.
What I gathered most from this release was that McAnally is musically very much in his own lane. There's fifteen tracks on this album and not one of them conforms to what is currently mainstream. Does this limit radio airplay? Absolutely but I think those CMA awards speak for themselves. This album provides a masterclass in storytelling.
There's a lot of variety on this offering. 'Mississippi on My Mind' and 'Zanzibar' are playful, bluegrassy tracks. 'Place Where You Belong' is piano heavy, a little reminiscent of Elton John, and 'Coast of Carolina' is a cute and charming track.
Yet, the stand-out track has to be 'With a Straight Face'. This ballad is an empathetic tale of two gay children whose parents just don't understand them. It's so incredibly refreshing to hear this sort of perspective in music and McAnally's presentation is as sensitive about an issue, as it is incredibly poignant. Truly powerful.
I could say more about this album but I'm going to leave it here. This is something you need to hear for yourself because this reviewer simply won't be able to do it justice.
AKA Nobody is out now and Mac plays The Borderline in London tomorrow (27th September). For more information, visit macmcanally.com.

Jack Ingram Releases Video For New Single + Confirms Album Release
Jack Ingram has released the video for his latest single ‘I’m Drinking Through It’ and confirmed the UK/European physical release of his eighth album Midnight Motel on 14th October 2016.
Seven years on from his last record - the first since his 2009 smash Big Dreams & High Hopes - Midnight Motel features spare, stripped-down instrumental arrangements that highlight the intimacy and urgency of such new originals as ‘I'm Drinking Through It’, ‘Nothing to Fix’, ‘Can’t Get Any Better Than This’, and ‘All Over Again’. The album's organic late-night vibe is perfectly suited to the material, and brings out the emotional edge in Ingram's deeply felt vocals.
The single ‘I’m Drinking Through It’ was co-written with Lori McKenna and Liz Rose; the video is streaming now on Youtube and you can watch it below.
Midnight Motel will be released on CD in the UK & Europe on 14th October. Jack will be performing in London as part of the Texas Music Takeover, from Nov 28th - Dec 5th 2016.

Single of the Week: 'Only Human' - Dahlia
The UK country scene has never been hotter than it is right now. A little over a week ago, Ward Thomas made history by becoming the first ever UK country act to hit the top spot on the albums chart and are now set to embark on a tour that is quickly selling out. Similarly, The Shires are also set to kick off an extensive tour playing at venues such as Glasgow's O2 ABC and London's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire in support of new album My Universe which is set to be released next week and has already generated a huge buzz around it. And the best part about it all is there seems to be no stopping this influx of British country.
Now comes Dahlia with their fantastic first single, 'Only Human' which was written by a certain Mr Ben Earle of the aforementioned The Shires.
The trio is made up of Jess Roberts, Lisa Wright and Paris Georgia, three ladies who are already familiar to audiences over here and are talented artists in their own right. Combine their voices and you get something absolutely magical - the harmonies on this number will give you goosebumps. These harmonies shine also due to the simplicity of the song which features only an acoustic guitar as accompaniment and allows their voices to take centre stage.
Credit also must be directed to Ben Earle who, with each song he writes, proves that he is one of the country's finest songwriters and this particular track is no exception as it delves into a vulnerable, fragile side of a person with powerful results.
A few years ago, I saw Ward Thomas and The Shires playing tiny venues with only a handful of singles, between them, to their names and look at them now. I have a feeling that in a few years from now, I will be saying exactly the same about this trio.
Only Human is available now.

EP Review: 'Out of Towners' - Clara Bond
Country music purists often argue that there is no place for pop in the genre. Of course, this is merely opinion but there has been many an artist who has tried to mix the two genres, creating an end product that sounds incredibly gimmicky, almost validating these arguments. But there has also been many an artist who has successfully managed to play with these two genres. Take Kelsea Ballerini, Taylor Swift and, now, Clara Bond.
On her new EP, Out of Towners, Clara blends pop and country effortlessly. There's no gimmicks and there's not one single moment at which it seems as if she's trying to be something that she's not. Whilst she may be leaning closer to pop, there's definite country influences on this four track release, a release that she has stated is 'so close to [her] heart'.
The title track is bittersweet, a track about feeling out of place and like a fish out of water, and was written during Clara's solo trip to the States. The following song, 'Tambourine' is the sort of number that I would expect from the aforementioned country pop powerhouses Ballerini and Swift. It's so elegantly written and beautifully sung and if given the right exposure, could easily be a huge song.
'Love Can't Stay' is a catchy track about a love that just wasn't meant to be, another track written based on her trip to America, and closing number 'Flashbacks' is a stunning conclusion to the EP, a fantastic showcase of a powerful and faultless voice.
All in all, this release is very strong. Definitely an artist to watch out for and definitely worth a purchase.

Single of the Week: 'Last First Love' - The Rising
For those unfamiliar with The Rising, they are a five piece country band from Belfast, Northern Ireland. They are also a bunch of teases as they release their fantastic new single 'Last First Love' with no set release date for their upcoming sophomore album.
'Last First Love' certainly whets the appetite for the new record. The upbeat track is catchy and encapsulates the joyful feeling of falling in love. In a genre that is famed for its tales of heartbreak, it's always nice to hear a more optimistic outlook on love.
This immensely fun track is also one of the first, of hopefully very many to come, tracks with new lead singer Chantelle McAteer and her vocals shine on this single. It's an exciting time for the band and also an exciting time for the UK country scene. I have a feeling that their new album, whenever that will come, will win over a whole lot of new fans.

Shovels & Rope Announce UK Tour For Next Year
Critically acclaimed husband & wife duo Shovels & Rope will release their anticipated new album Little Seeds on their new label New West Records on 7th October. Known for their honest, raw and highly distinctive sound, Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent (aka Shovels & Rope) have made their most personal and powerful album yet.
As songwriters, Hearst and Trent have earned a reputation as gifted storytellers. The main distinction between their prior work and Little Seeds, is that the stories here are true and inspired by their own experiences and observations.
The duo have also announced a UK tour for February 2017 and the dates are as follows:

- Saturday 4th February - Drygate, Glasgow
- Sunday 5th February - Ruby Lounge, Manchester
- Monday 6th February - Islington Assembly Hall, London
Little Seeds reflects a pivotal and tumultuous time in their lives, and in our society. With song titles such as 'Botched Execution', 'Mourning Song', 'The Last Hawk' and subject matters ranging from Alzheimer’s disease ('Invisible Man') to over-medicating children ('Johnny Come Outside') to racial unity (‘BWYR'), one might think Little Seeds is a hopeless and depressing work, which would be highly inaccurate. Shovels & Rope’s penchant for writing literate, Southern Gothic infused songs that exude a dark humour, deep sentiment and the celebration of the genuine, quirky and beautiful things in life has never shined brighter than it does on Little Seeds.

EP REVIEW: 'I Remember' - Gary Quinn
Gary Quinn is perhaps one of the best known names on the UK country scene, touring tirelessly and popping up at festivals including C2C and Buckle and Boots. It's pretty impressive that he manages to find time to record. Yet he does and he did recently, producing the five track I Remember EP which was released at the start of the month.
The EP has been described by Gary as 'a very personal project' and as a 'reflective piece of work' about different points in his life. This knowledge makes a song like 'Each Night You Lie' especially heart-breaking as it tells the tale of a couple slowly losing their spark and drifting apart. It also makes the track 'First Glance' even sweeter, knowing that the already charmingly cutesy number about the beginning of a relationship was written with a certain someone in mind.
'Shame', which was the first single to be released from the project, most definitely towers above the others when it comes to picking a favourite track from a very solid collection. It's catchy with a kicking drumbeat. This song has received many a positive review and rightfully so. It's a song about struggling to move on and you'll be struggling to move on from this song and not listen to it on repeat.
'Body Language' is a fun track and surely will be a feature single and EP closer 'Best Man Won' is the sort of track that fans have come to expect from Gary - one that is packed with heart at the core.
All in all, I Remember is a solid release and will solidify Gary as a very strong contender to win another Male Vocalist of the Year award at the BCMAs.
